Volunteers Make a Difference
Volunteers are an essential part of the DVRC team and the work we do every day. Their time, skills, compassion, and commitment allow us to expand our services and provide meaningful support to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence.
DVRC volunteers receive comprehensive training in domestic violence dynamics, confidentiality, and trauma-informed practices. They support a variety of programs and services, including the Helpline, Drop-In Center, Court Advocacy, facilities maintenance, and community events.
Whether providing direct support, helping maintain a safe and welcoming environment, or lending a hand at a fundraising event, every volunteer plays an important role in advancing our mission and helping create a community where survivors can find safety, support, and a path forward.
We are grateful for the time and dedication our volunteers give to DVRC. Their contributions truly make our work possible.
DVRC Volunteer Opportunities
Direct Service Volunteer (Drop-in Center)
Helpline Volunteers directly support victims of domestic violence and their children. Volunteers provide information, referrals, emotional support, and crisis intervention by answering the agency’s Helpline and greeting guests who stop into the center located in Wakefield. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9am-4:30pm. We ask for a commitment of one 4-hour shift per week.
Court Advocate Volunteer
Court Advocate volunteers provide guidance and assistance through the legal system as it pertains to domestic violence. Volunteers assist with writing restraining orders, making referrals for other services, assisting with no contact orders, etc. Volunteers work one 4-hour shift per week at the courthouse in Wakefield.
Maintenance Volunteer
Maintenance volunteers help with the overall upkeep and repairs of our buildings. This volunteer role would best suit someone who enjoys doing general maintenance indoors, as well as outdoors. Ensuring that our building looks neat and tidy all year round!
Corporate & Community Volunteering
There are many opportunities for local businesses and their employees to support the work of DVRC through volunteering, such as organizing office donation drives of NEW items such as personal care products, cleaning supplies and other much-needed items. There are also options for getting involved by sponsoring fundraising events or even rolling up their sleeves to assist with maintenance projects at our drop-in center.
Gala Committee Volunteer
Gala Committee volunteers help plan and support the DVRC’s annual fundraising gala. Volunteers assist with event planning, outreach to local businesses and community partners, securing auction and raffle donations, sponsorship opportunities, promoting the event, and helping with event-day preparations. Committee members attend planning meetings and work alongside DVRC staff to help make the gala a successful and meaningful event.
